15 Minute Doll Headband Tutorial
I make a lot of clothes for my daughters’ dolls. If I have enough fabric left over, I like to also make matching hair accessories. With just a small piece of fabric and 15 minutes, you can have a cute matching American Girl doll headband.
First cut a piece of fabric 3″ x 10″. I like to use a disappearing ink pen to mark the fabric to make sure it is uniform in size.
Turn in 1/2 inch on the short edges and press. Optionally baste to hold in place.
Pin right sides together and stitch down long side. Press seam open.
Turn right side out. (A large safety pin is helpful for this task.)
Press with seam running down the middle of the doll headband.
Cut a 4″ piece of 1/2″ elastic. (All I had on hand was 1/4″ elastic and that works too!) Insert elastic into one end of the tube about 3/4″. (A disappearing ink pen is great to use here too to mark how far you should insert the elastic.) Sewing close to the edge, stitch closed.
Insert other end of elastic into other end of the tube and sew shut.
This doll headband is so quick and easy that you can make one for each of your daughter’s doll outfits. I am going to use this AG doll craft to introduce my 9 year old daughter to the sewing machine. While you are here be sure to also check out our pattern for a cute doll headband made from plastic canvas. If you make this or any other craft here at AG Doll Crafts, I would love to hear how it turns out. Be sure to leave a comment below.
