Making Doll Hula Skirts using Plastic Tableclothes

I was thinking it would be fun to have an Aloha themed sleepover for Zoey and a friend before school starts up again here...being that Aloha means hello AND goodbye I thought it might be a fun theme for the start of the school year and the end of summer.  I got a retired Hawaiian themed party kit from American Girl on eBay awhile ago (for 2) and wanted to supplement it with some other crafty Hawaiian things for the sleepover. After doing some searching online and discovering this fun post I knew that I wanted to make some doll sized hula skirts for the sleepover.  Instead of using tissue paper and crepe paper however I opted to use some plastic tablecloths that I got from the dollar store.

I used a folded over portion of the tablecloth and using my zig-zag pinking sheers I cut strips along the edge that I had cut.  The folded over edge is at the top.

After cutting my strips I made my waistband using white duct tape.

I had gotten a bunch of silk flowers from the dollar store as well and I plucked the flowers from the stems and added those to my waistbands using hot glue.

To add a closure to the waistband I punched a hole on one side and added a decorative brad.  This was a easy craft and it turned out super cute!  I also picked up a yellow tablecloth and will be making the girls matching Hula skirts using this same tutorial as well!
