Doll Craft: Make a Messenger Bag!
Every girl needs an adorable messenger bag! There are so many ways you can use one; as a purse, backpack, or even as an accessory to complete an outfit!
Today I'm going to show you how you can make a messenger bag for your doll! These are SO cute and fun, let's get started!
First you'll need some supplies:
- Felt of any color or pattern (I used some sparkly pink I had)
- Scissors
- Needle and Thread
- Ribbon
- Ruler or measuring tape
- A button
- And, a parent/guardian to help you!
Once you have your supplies measure a rectangle on your felt, 8 inches tall.
And, 4 inches wide. Mark with a pen it you'd like. Then cut out with your scissors.
Now that your rectangle is cut out, it's time to get to the fun part...
If you are using a patterned felt, the pretty side should be touching the pretty side as you fold it.
Thread your needle and make simple stitches along both sides.
After your done, it should look something like this! :) Then flip your bag inside out, to hide the stiches.
Now take out your ribbon and measure a piece 16 inches long.
Put the ribbon on the inside of the messenger bag and use your needle & thread again to secure with a few stiches.
Now that the ribbon strap is on, you need a clasp to keep the flap in place.
Sew on a small button near the top of the bag.
We're almost done! All you need is a button hole...
With your scissors, snip a tiny opening. Slip the button in the hole and your doll's bag is finished!!
Give it to your doll for her to keep all of her things in! :)
Kenley loves her bag and can't wait to take it to school! I hope you have fun making a messenger bag for your doll. If you do I'd love to see, feel free to send me a picture at email@americangirlfan.com
Happy Crafting! :)
